UPDATE: Some great guys from INTERCOT have volunteered to spread the word amongst their 150-person-strong Disney tour group. To fit their schedule, I've moved the meetup to Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2:00PM. Thanks Gary & John, any any the INTERCOT people who come out!
Dear Internet (specifically those of you in the Orlando, Florida area),
| Carrie in front of her favorite ride.
The crowd in the queue was just
there to getting out of the rain, they
didn't stay for the show. :(

Right now, Carrie is with friends on a trip to Disney World. Her favorite attraction in all of Disney World is Carousel of Progress. If you're not familiar with this attraction, it's an Audio-Animatronics (talking robots) stage show built for the 1964 New York World's Fair. It's a wonderful classic show which gets very little love (read: attendance). On its best day, the theater is maybe one-quarter full.
Every once in awhile, we have been fortunate enough to attend the show with a small enthusiastic crowd. Carrie is always delighted whenever this happens. I love the look on her face when other people laugh and sing along to the ride. It is that joy that I want to give to her for her birthday.
This is where you come in
As my gift to her, I would like to put together a large enthusiastic audience to watch the Carousel of Progress show with her. Movies are always more fun with a good audience ... right? Well the same goes for animatronic stage shows. Now, I know there are some logistical problems with this plan. Most notably, the only people who are well suited to attend the show are people living in the Orlando area and already have annual passes to Disney World. It is my hope that this problem can be mitigated by utilizing the massive reach of the Internet ... i.e.: I'd like your help spreading the word. Tell all your friends (just don't tell Carrie, it's a surprise).
A single show seats 240 people. It would be amazing to get that many people, but I'd be happy if 15 enthusiastic people showed up.
Here is what you need to do to participate:
- Learn the Carousel of Progress theme song.
- Meet in front of the Carousel of Progress on Friday, October 26, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 11:30 AM. It's located in Magic Kingdom in Tomorrowland. Look for people wearing INTERCOT T-shirts, they'll be attending the show. - The clock on everybody's cell phone is automatically set with the exact via cell towers. If everyone sets an alarm on their phone for 2:00, they should all ring at roughly the exact same time. When the alarm rings, everyone should proceed to the theater and get on the next show. I'll make sure Carrie gets there.
- Enjoy the show, and be sure to sing along.
In Conclusion ...
If you'll be in the Disney area this Saturday, have a spare park pass, and want to make a stranger's day, then come on down. If you can't make it, but want to help me give my wife the best 30th birthday gift I can imagine, please tell some friends. I know this plan of mine doesn't have the mass viral potential of say, Caine's Arcade, but I hope it gets some attention.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you can make it to the show.
Leave a comment to RSVP.
P.S. Carrie is a former CP. There are probably enough CPs that will have off this weekend to fill the show. If you're a CP, show some love for your CP family: come on down, and bring 239 friends!
Love this! Carousel of Progress is one of my favorites too, my 10 year old daughter loves it as well! We were in Orlando the entire summer this year and went to WDW almost every day, the CofP is always on the list of must go on!
ReplyDeleteAlso, look for the CofP Vinylmation if you don't have it, it's John in his 4 outfits and has the cog sign on the back!
You are a special person to think of this and try to execute it. I live in Seattle but if I was more able I would so be there!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you changed the date! I read this yesterday and tried to do a good thing and spread the story around the Orlando area. I happened to click back here today and I'm a little stunned. Most people will have probably only read this once and show up on Saturday. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to change the date last minute, but I got a strong yes from the INTERCOT group, and no other RSVPs. I did notice that you did a lot of tweeting about it, and I really appreciate that.
DeleteMy twitter followers are nothing it's all the re-tweets I got. Those people have over 22,000 followers combined. 2 dates are out there and nothing can be done about that now. Hopefully anyone that is planning on helping will see that the date has been changed. I work tomorrow so I won't be able to make it. I hope your wife enjoys her surprise.
